Five Major Benefits of Reading

Reading everyday can help you improve  almost every aspect of your life. This has been very true for the great thinkers of the past and the  present. Below are five major benefits of reading that can attest to that. Greater tranquility - Reading can soothe like no other. Given that I’m a pretty high-energy person, reading forces me to sit and be still. This daily act of making myself be quiet and still has been nothing short of miraculous for my anxiety and my “fidgety factor”. Improved analytical thinking - That’s right, ladies and germs. Cunningham’s studies have found that analytical thinking is boosted by reading. Readers improve their general knowledge, and more importantly are able to spot patterns quicker. If you can spot patterns quicker, your analytical skills receive a boost. Increased vocabulary - It’s no secret that reading increases your vocabulary and improves your spelling, but did you know that reading increases your vocabulary more than talking or di...

Researching Online Versus Researching In The Library

Many students would not want to go to the library these days as the internet seems to provide everything all the information they need to know. However, online research must never be used as complete replacement to researching in the library. It must only serve as an aid to the actual legwork that you need to do for a certain project.  The library is a well-spring of professional sources like books, encyclopedias, newspapers and other research papers. Unlike most of the information acquired online, the research data you would get from a library include names of established authors. Therefore, the credibility of such data may not be questioned. More so, you can get a hard copy of archived reading materials which are dated years back. Nothing beats the feeling of holding something that is part of history especially if the material has the signature of an important personality. Round the clock accessibility is what the internet can offer. This is coupled by quick...

The Benefits Of Instilling Good Reading Habits In Children

Instilling good reading habits in children will help them later in life. Even with the prevalence of video games and modern technology, children should be encouraged to read. It is a basic skill that any person should be given the chance to learn. Knowing how to read will prepare your child for both the simple and complicated challenges of everyday life. If your child does not know how to read, how will he order from Mc Donald’s? How will he understand the instructions to his favourite video game? How will he know what’s written on the gift tags of his birthday presents? How will your child fill out college application forms, pursue higher education, find a decent job, and carve the path to his future? Parents should encourage kids to read. Reading is a very healthy activity. When I say ‘healthy,’ I don’t mean that it makes one physically stronger or more resistant to diseases. Reading nourishes the mind. It is very good exercise for the brain. It helps make one’s brain function be...

On Real Books And Ebooks

I may have been a fan of the traditional book, but I cannot deny the fact that I also love to read books using my Kindle especially when I travel. This offers a lot of convenience on my end because I do not need to carry a full bag of books, I just have to bring my electronic book reader with me when I  go out. :) But when I prefer to stay at home especially during weekends and holidays, I still hold a real book. That enables me to save on electricity costs as well, since I need to charge my Ebook reader so I can use it again as opposed to the traditional book . With the real one, you can just flip the pages and not worry about grabbing the charger next to you. All you need is a well lit place so you can read the contents. What about you? Which would you prefer? A real book or an electronic one?
